Brand Story: Empowered by a Mother’s Love
In 2004, the founder of Brown Girls Hair (BGH), Shaunic Stinson, became a mother to a daughter after having three sons. Navigating the challenges of caring for her daughter’s thick natural hair, she discovered a lack of resources and guidance for moms like her. Determined to find a solution, she launched a blog and YouTube channel, sharing hair care tips and tutorials with other moms who wanted to learn how to style and nurture their children’s natural hair.
What began as a personal mission quickly grew into a community of women inspired by the founder’s authenticity and dedication. Over the years, her daughter’s hair flourished—long, thick, and beautiful—but maintaining it remained a time-consuming task. Inspired by her daughter’s hair journey, the founder developed the BGH 4-in-1 Mighty Cream, a product designed to simplify hair care by offering moisture, detangling, leave-in conditioning, and growth stimulation in one formula. This innovative product was created to save time and effort while keeping hair healthy and manageable.
As her daughter grew older, her hair journey evolved. Now a college student, she enjoys wearing protective styles like weaves and braids, embracing the versatility of her natural hair. She has also embraced the role of CEO in the business. This evolution inspired the founder to broaden BGH’s mission: to create products that cater to all hair preferences. Whether customers rock natural curls, protective styles, or relaxed hair, BGH products are designed to support healthy hair, no matter the style.
